My health/spiritual coach sent me a response to the thank-you letter I wrote about her on this blog a few weeks ago and in addition to thanking me she said, “Kate, enjoy being the in the flow.” Yes, I thought. This place where I’m at now — where I’m stunned by sunsets, thankful for each piece of food I can eat, and grateful to simply be at a farmer’s market — does feel like this gorgeous, effortless flow. I feel that flow in yoga class, when I meditate, when I’m talking to my closest friends on the phone, when I hear a gorgeous song etc. etc.
When I was at Kripalu (a yoga retreat center in the Berkshires), I was FLOWing in a way I had never experienced before. I can’t tell you how many times I have whispered to people since that weekend, “Do you know what it feels like to meditate in a room with 8o people? It feels like fireworks (get the reference ladies?).
Maintaing a sense of flow in my everyday life is a completely different battle. It’s so easy to bow out and blame the usual suspects. I’m stressed. I’m too busy. All these responsibilities are just weighing me down. Ugh, if only I could live that retreat/flow lifestyle everyday. But I can.
It’s just not second nature to me yet. See there, I just took my power back. It felt de-licious. I’m setting some realistic goals for myself:
- Meditate two times this week for 20 minutes. Then, no guilt about logging 5 minutes =)
- Attend two yoga (oh, but my heart’s craving three!) classes in addition to teacher training
- Give at least one sincere compliment to someone every day this week
- Send a surprise letter to a friend.
I will leave you with a song that has been inspiring me a lot lately. About waking up to a fresh, NEW world everyday. The opening lyrics are so stunning:
“Some kind of magic
Happens late at night
When the moon smiles down at me
And bathes me in its light
I fell asleep beneath you
In the tall blades of grass
When I woke the world was new
I never had to ask”
Enjoy XOXO- K
